How did Arturo Prat die?

He died heroically during the Naval Battle of Iquique, part of the War of the Pacific. Commanding the corvette Esmeralda, Prat engaged the powerful Peruvian monitor Huáscar, under the command of Admiral Miguel Grau. Despite his ship's overwhelming disadvantage, Prat delivered a speech to his crew and, after the Huáscar's first ramming, led a daring boarding of the enemy vessel. As he leaped onto the deck of the Huáscar, he was shot, one of them fatally in the forehead, and died instantly. His sacrifice and bravery became a crucial symbol of Chilean morale during the conflict.
